Hopkins was established as a small Garifuna fishing village in 1942. It is home to around 1000 Garinagu and is famous for its proud traditions, sandy beaches, gently swaying coconut palms, and cool Caribbean breezes. Hopkins village is a perfect get-away-from-it-all. Hopkins is also known as the only Garifuna village in Belize where the children still learn Garifuna as their native language.

At the south end of the beach you will find Sandy Beach Lodge which is run by a women's cooperative.
The people of Hopkins have made their own website where you can find information on how to get there, accommodation, eating, local shops and a lot more.
